Topic: Revising off-street parking code
Type: Presentation
Takeaway: – The infrastructure and development committee, building upon the city Council‘s support, is moving toward eliminating the requirement for offstreet parking on residential lots
– Public works has just begun a four-part series with the planning commission to look at parking policy and how to accommodate on street parking
-each 50 foot lot can only accommodate two parking spaces, and driveways can gobble up a lot of that area
– The committee, and the city Council are concerned about the impacts that the change could have on emergency vehicles, stormwater, sidewalks, rain gardens, and trees. Steve King says there are ways to address these, but implementing them can be difficult.
– Steve King wants a city wide plan that states which streets will be streets and which will be trails.
– The committee discussed the possibility of an interim, parking standard, and agreed that the city attorney will need to examine the legal viability of an interim ordinance
