HSN really skilled up in our ability to monitor and engage with local government policy. This is reflected in many ways:

- A large portion of the HSN Comp Plan Priorities are reflected in Port Townsend’s update. (FYI Jefferson County’s update has been extended into 2026, but expecting impact there as well.)

- Monitored over 100 public meetings, identifying housing related topics on 44 of them, half of which we listed on our public calendar.

- Published 8 Advocacy Alerts drawing the community’s attention to key actionable items affecting housing in Jefferson County.
HSN also gave voice to the nuance and complexity of housing issues locally and across the country through our monthly newsletters, including a curation of news/research articles, and reoccurring Housing Happy Hour conversations.
HSN defined a lot of the conversation around housing through the Housing our Economy Survey Report and presentations. This project brought light to the:

- Chronic decline of rental units

- Chronic decline of traditionally working age people (16-64)

- Great number of households cost burdened by housing

- Large disparity in local housing budgets and home prices

- Direct negative impact housing cost and availability have on businesses

- Housing types/characteristics local residents are willing to embrace in pursuit of safe, stable and affordable housing
